The Color Purple

😊- Harpo? Who dis woman?

If you know me personally, then you know I recite lines from the original color purple daily. Just seemed like Alice Walker had the right words to describe the craziness that is life summed up in a sentence as simple as “I think it pisses God off when people walk by the Color purple and don’t take notice” or “Damn you sho is ugly”, and finally everyone’s favorite “Harpo who dis woman”? So it was no surprise to me that the women in this new musical rendition not only delivered their lines perfectly, but brought a whole new life to the story with the music that they sang. It is toned down compared to Spielberg’s 1985 film version, however considering it was a musical I understood that decision. It is nowhere near as good as the original, but it is still good as it is in its own right.
